Lyn and Chris in hats

We won 2nd prize for our hats.

Debra from the Quilting Art Studio arranged for this charity event “Queen of Hearts Mad Hatters Tea Party” in order to raise money to support abused women and orphaned children in Malawi, it is called Fatima Centre.

orphans

This centre was set up by a group of women from Jeddah in who had the idea in 2007.Today’s  money was being raised to help go towards funding various projects such as a medical centre, a bakery and other projects that will help the women and children to learn skills that would help them to be self sufficient.  All money raised today will go directly to the Fatima Centre.

We arrived at Anne’s to find all the tables were decorated with lovely cups and saucers and pots of tea and coffee.  There were tables with lots of delicious yummy cakes, scones, fresh home made strawberry jam and cream, tarts and little sandwiches.  Fruity strawberry juice drink and home made lemonade. Another area was set up with lots of craft materials for all the women to participate in making a fan.  The best voted fans won prizes as did the best voted hats.

1st prize for the best beautiful hat.

We all got involved in a game which had 8 ladies per table competing against another 2 tables.  All the questions were to do with nursery rhymes.  it was a lot of fun.  At the end we all had to get up and go around our tables singing ” The queen of hearts she made some tarts…”  Each of us was given a playing card. The one that received the Queen of Hearts card became the Queen of Hearts.  The winner was Lamees who happened to be the only true Saudi women at the party.  Such a lovely warm queen.  The crown suited her so well.
